The Strong National Museum of Play

A highly interactive, collections-based museum devoted to the history and exploration of play.

How does a gala fundraising event work around a major capital construction project?

Of course, leverage the construction project for your party theme! That was the strategy for the Strong Museum’s Play Ball 2019 gala.

The “Pardon our Glitter” approach celebrated the ambitious expansion with construction-zone signage and plenty of playful theme extensions. Embracing the challenge of the venue allowed us to create a fun, relevant connection with loyal supporters of the Strong Museum. Results were much better than the organization could have hoped. More than 700 guests detoured through a temporary back entrance to mix, mingle, and bid on hundreds of silent and live auction items.

Highlights:

  • Developed a high-energy theme and executed it in print, digital, and on-site elements like desserts and signage.

  • We helped secure Tape Face from America’s Got Talent for the event entertainment.

  • Early commitments from new sponsors helped build event momentum.

  • Record attendance: Sold-out event at more than 700 guests.

  • Donations were up 12% versus the prior year.

  • The creative has been the foundation for the Strong Museum’s largest annual fundraiser since 2017.
